Grenache - Amapola Creek 2020
Moon Mountain District, Estate Grown
Amapola Creek Vineyards consists of 100 acres along the sun-washed western slope of the Mayacamas Mountains adjacent to the highly-acclaimed Monte Rosso Vineyard. These red, iron-oxide soils have yielded superb wines for well over a century. Our 2020 Grenache is made from vines organically grown on our two-plus-acre parcel named Bobcat Run. This block takes its name from a large resident feline that treats us to an occasional sighting. The site is ideally suited for growing Rhône varieties as it lies in a fairly cool hollow open to the southwest, and its rows run north-south for good sun and warmth without excessive exposure. The cooler conditions in Bobcat Run produce fruit with a great depth of flavor.
About the Amapola Creek Grenache:
Red berries dominate the aroma, with ripe strawberries and juicy raspberries taking the lead. There is a subtle floral undertone, hinting at dried rose petals, adding layers of elegance. Delicate spices like cinnamon and a touch of earthiness add complexity. On the palate, flavors of perfectly-ripe cherries and wild berries strike a pleasant balance between sweetness and acidity. A subtle hint of white pepper adds a touch of spice, enhancing the overall depth. Silky and smooth, the wine has refined tannins, contributing to a velvety mouthfeel, with a long and lingering finish.
