Our Syrah grapes are meticulously cultivated in the Moon Mountain District AVA of Sonoma County, where our vineyard sits majestically on the rugged slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains. Nestled in a sun-drenched western exposure, our small vineyard blocks benefit from the unique terroir, sharing the distinctive red, iron-rich volcanic soils with our esteemed neighbor, the historic Monte Rosso Vineyard. Our specific plot, known as Mooncrest Vineyard, spans a portion of our 100-acre estate, strategically planted to maximize each varietal's potential. The Syrah vines thrive in a designated area known as Lunar Ridge, situated in a cool, southwest-facing hollow that ensures optimal sun exposure and balanced ripening conditions.
About the 2022 Moon Mountain Syrah:
Our 2022 Estate Grown Syrah from the Moon Mountain District AVA is a focused expression of the elevated terroir of the Amapola Creek Estate and marks only our second vintage of 100% Syrah. Grown on steep, sun-drenched slopes with rocky volcanic soils above Sonoma Valley, the fruit develops exceptional depth and intensity.
On the palate, concentrated dark fruit flavors of blackberry and plum lead, layered with savory notes of cracked black pepper, smoked herbs, and a hint of grilled meat. The texture is rich and velvety, supported by fine-grained, well-integrated tannins that carry through to a long, structured finish, leaving impressions of dark tea, mineral, and subtle oak.
